Marissa was born and raised on the Dallas (Texas) District Church of the Nazarene and received her call to ministry at the age of nine. She was later ordained as an Elder on the same district in 2007. She grew up in a song evangelist family, traveling and singing for revivals and concerts all over Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. She is a graduate of Nazarene Bible College with a degree in Pastoral Ministry and obtained her nursing license in 2014. She also has a certificate in interior decorating and is pretty sure an honorary degree in Lego-building is applicable.
Marissa has a long history with public speaking for women’s conferences, retreats, and church services, as well as leading worship. As a domestic violence/sexual assault/rape survivor, she has used her past experiences to shed light on these issues through community education, awareness, and victim advocacy. One of her spiritual gifts is teaching and she loves sharing with others what she is learning, especially in God’s Word.
Burr (9) is Marissa’s son and the two share an avid love for learning, swimming, and essentially all things aquatic so they love spending time at the beach. Marissa is very creative and often finds herself participating in art (watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, photography) as a healing, restorative, and meditative activity.
Over the years, Marissa has had the privilege to serve as Children’s Pastor, Assistant Pastor, Assistant Youth Pastor, hospital chaplain, VBS curriculum writer and director, and ministry founder/community program developer. She has led teams on mission trips to Oklahoma, Mexico, and the United Kingdom.
Marissa is also the founder and pastor of Healing Arts Hawaii and she is absolutely thrilled to be part of the Wahiawa Community Church of the Nazarene ohana!
